Guest Speaker: Amy Keed, Mrs. Carson City Nevada Shares Her Story

Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer.




Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer. This year, to that end, they have hosted the 6th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event with 75% of proceeds will be applied to raising awareness with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network organization and back to the community. .

Guest speaker Amy Keed, Mrs. Carson City Nevada took the podium to share her story and to increase awareness for pancreatic cancer. During her speech, Amy hightlighted the fact that pancreatic cancer is a silent disease with low survival and treatment rates. Amy stated during her speech “9% survival rate is unacceptable. I'm lucky to announce that my father is a current pancreatic cancer survivor and I hope this leads to more hope and faith for future patients as we continue to fight for early detection." Early detection is essential in diagnosing pancreatic cancer to increase chances on qualifing for treatments and survival. As of today, there are no early detection tests.

Carson City Fundraising Event

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, Carson City Kiwanis hosted their 6th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day at Silver Oak Golf Course. This annual event is one of many fundraisers that Carson City Kiwanis hosts and coordinates each year.


For the past six years, this event has seen many participants from local politicians, to famous actors, and other individuals. Carson City Kiwanis is proud to continue the success of this event for the Carson City community. This event would not be as successful without the following sponsors: Kaia FIT, Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club, Fitness For Life Personal Training Gym, BlueZone Sports, Fitness For 10, Visit Carson City, Monarch Direct, Mrs.Carson City, Sign Pro, Kadee Mason - American Family Insurance Agent, Waddell & Reed – Stevan Lyon, Michael Hohl Chevy Buick GMC Cadillac, Reno-Vation, Bristlecone Family Eye Care, Carson High School Key Club, and the many Kiwanis members who volunteered their time to coordinate this event. The fundraiser will offer THREE events to further the cause: a golf tournament hosted by the Silver Oak Golf Course, a pancreatic cancer walk/run, and a bench press championship competition. - Carson City Kiwanis
